The Lower Zambezi National Park, by virtue of the Zambezi River and its parallel escarpment, is one of Africa’s most scenic wildernesses, home to an impressive quantity and variety of wildlife that can be viewed not only on the more usual land-based Lower Zambezi activities, but also on a variety of water-based activities, and in the camps themselves. Chiawa Camp blends in effortlessly with its idyllic surroundings, and provides a retreat which guests are invited to make their home away from home. On the banks of the Zambezi River, under a grove of evergreen Mahogany trees, Chiawa Camp holds the prime position in the heart of Zambia’s Lower Zambezi National Park.
The rooms are comfortable and elegantly-furnished with hot and cold running water and electricity. Raised on a platform to give you an unobstructed view over the flood plains and the teeming wildlife that Mombo Camp is renowned for, all tents share a stunning thatched lounge/bar area with upstairs viewing deck providing one of the best views of the Zambezi River, and a fantastic setting to watch the sun set over another day in Africa. After enjoying Chiawa’s renowned cuisine on the al-fresco dining veranda, you can relax by the open camp fire with a cocktail in-hand, reminiscing upon the day’s adventures before retiring for the night.
In comparison to typical African safaris, the Lower Zambezi safari experience is truly unique. It is more remote, more exclusive, and more experiential in nature than other safari destinations. While both guests and guides require more patience with regards to game viewing, the results are often outstanding. Chiawa Camp is located in the middle of prime wildlife and habitat zones of the Lower Zambezi National Park. Wildlife to be spotted includes elephant, lion, leopard, buffalo, waterbuck, hippos and crocodiles.
