Leora and family have arrived in South Africa for their family safari!

I always love touch down on African soil, that butterfly feeling in my tummy never fails, then there is always a moment thereafter where I am thankful for the wonderful job I have. I’m so lucky to be back again, and this time with the family!

Here’s the lowdown of the past 2 days of our journey:

Our 14 hour plane journey:

First stop was New York for the night then off to Johannesburg first thing in the morning. Two of my favorite places in the world, New York and Africa…this is going to be a great trip! In the Big Apple we dined at Cafe Cluny followed by desert at a cool jazz bar.

Not going to lie, the plane ride was long with the kids! The thing to note to yourself if you are one of the lucky few who manage to sleep on planes, you might as well accept beforehand that it’s not going to happen on a flight with kids(small kids that is).  So to conclude, here are my essentials you may wish to think about for your family safari regarding the long plane journeys:

Essentials for kids:

Coloring books (or whatever their passion at that time is)

Eye mask (some airlines give them out)

Valerian root to assist in sleeping*

Lots of fun snacks (I pack mine in small glad wrap bags things such as popcorn, jelly babies, pretzels, lollipops, this alone can keep my kids quite happy for some time)

Essentials for Leora:

Cashmere scarf

Eye mask

Neck pillow (I have tried them all and tend to prefer the blow up kind)

Good book

Just arrived this afternoon at Kwandwe Lodge! More on this tomorrow, now for a good night’s sleep!
