You can’t call us to book these hotels…

but we know the International Safari Stopover happens

— and while we talk about all the shiny new properties turning our heads this week we could not resist including some fascinating hotels opening in great Stopover locations around the world in 2019.

Opening February 2019

BELMOND CADOGAN, LONDON

Hotel opening: Spring 2019

The Prince of Wales Edward VII frequented 21 Pont Street where his mistress Lillie Langtry lived. When her townhouse became part of the hotel in 1895, she stayed on in her bedroom. Oscar Wilde also loved the Cadogan, he was famously arrested in room 118.

History is thickly embroidered throughout the fabric of the Belmond Cadogan. In Spring of 2019, the hotel will reopen after a four-year renovation. In keeping with its adventurous history, the new incarnation will feature chef Adam Handling in the kitchen and designs by graduates throughout the interiors.

Opening June 2019

JK PLACE PARIS

The Italian townhouse hotel has been redefined by Ori Kafri with the opening of JK Place in Florence, Capri, and Rome. Now he has set his considerable talents a task in Paris.

At the end of May, a former embassy building on rue de Lilli will hang the JK Place sign on its door and la dolce vita will be found upon entry. Designed like the other JK Place hotels, the Paris property will be imbued with a sense of place. Visually married to Paris by the antiques from its flea markets, commissioned pieces from French designers the JK Place Paris will also fit its brand with signature ultra-chic Dedar fabric and intense style.

Add a Sisley spa, a pool in the basement and an Italian restaurant on the ground floor.

Opening mid-2019

New Raffles, Singapore

What does Queen Elizabeth II, her heir Prince William and his wife, the Duchess of Cambridge, Nelson Mandela, Charlie Chaplin, Rudyard Kipling, John Wayne, and Elizabeth Taylor have in common? They have all called Raffles, Singapore home for a night.

And in 2019 greeters in East India Company Officer inspired uniforms will once again welcome guests to the hotel, as it will re-open after an ambitious two-year revamp.

Names for Sir Stamford Raffles who founded the Asian city, Raffles was founded in 1887 by the Sarkies Brothers. Their intimate understanding of what the international jet set needed an establishment to deliver had the hotel opening as a ten suite beachfront property before it rapidly grew into the neo-classical beauty it is today.

Over time, with land reclamation, the sea has retreated a mile and a half and the skyline has stretched up into a menagerie of glass skyscrapers looking down on the place that exudes charm, warmth, elegance, and history from the heart of Singapore.

During its storied history, Raffles became the first property in the region to have electric ceiling fans and lights (in 1899). A tiger escaped from the local zoo and adopted the hotel cellar as its new home in the 1910s and it became the birthplace of the Singapore Sling in ‘Cad’s Alley’ cocktail bar.

Raffles has been a National Monument since 1987 and while restaurants and shops have been added only guests may enter the main part of the hotel.

The outside still looks the same but inside the hotel, Alexandra Champimaud and Aedas Architecture firm have been hard at work wielding their ultra-modernist approach sympathetically and with minimal environmental impact. Guests can expect all the old charm but now it will also offer all the mod-cons they might expect from a world-famous five-star residence.

Want a sneak peek.

Sorry.

The only possible way anyone can see the new nipped and tucked Raffles is by booking a stay. No images of the interior will be released!

Luckily many flights to Africa and Australia just so happen to go via Singapore.
