Begin your African adventure in Cape Town at the foot of Table Mountain. After a couple of days discovering all the delights the southern point of the continent has to offer you are ready to explore the interior and are off to Kambaku River Sands for all the wild Fauna and Flora of the African bush. From here a flight will deliver you to Victoria Falls where you can enjoy a couple of days on the banks of the mighty Zambezi River before flying southwards again to the Khway concession bordering on the Okavango Delta in Botswana.

Travel day to Africa
Your journey begins as you board your international flight to Africa.
Cape Town, South Africa
Upon arrival in Cape Town, you will be transferred to Welgelegen Boutique Hotel. This lovely Victorian-built house is nestled in a tranquil street, well situated within a short walk of Kloof Street and some of Cape Town’s best local restaurants, bars and artisanal stores. Typically flights from the U.S. to Cape Town via Johannesburg arrive early to mid-afternoon. Settle into your accommodations, followed by dinner. The Cape is a haven for lovers of fine cuisine, and also boast plenty of authentic cafes and bars.
Cape Town, Tour along the Cape Peninsula/Cape of Good Hope
After breakfast, you set out from Cape Town with your guide on one of the most beautiful drives in the world to Cape Point and the peninsula. Along the coastal road, granite boulders serve as lookout points toward the Twelve Apostles, Table Mountain and the beach of Camps Bay. Pass through quaint fishing villages and charming harbors, looking out for the epic Southern Right Whales. It’s here, at the Good Hope Nature Reserve where the whales come to mate and give birth, often resulting in breeched whales. A stop at the Boulders Beach, with a walk to experience the only penguins to be found on the African continent. The more adventurous may kayak to them or take a boat ride out to Seal Island. Dinner this evening is at your leisure, you may wish to try authentic African cuisine or take in some live music at a local café.
Cape Town, Full day Cultural and Cape Winelands
Enjoy a hearty breakfast before setting out to one of Cape Town’s oldest townships. Experience the dynamic ‘vibe’ of daily township life and interact with locals in this friendly atmosphere. You may visit a crêche or school, enjoy some traditional drumming or gumboot dancing, take in a visit to a sangoma (witch doctor) and do a little craft shopping before stopping in at an authentic shebeen. This afternoon continue on to the Cape Winelands, sample some of South Africa’s top wines, enjoy lunch at a stunning wine estate, take a cellar tour and spend some time lingering in the stunning town of Franschhoek, before heading back to the city. Prepare for an early morning departure to your first game reserve.
Flight to Timbavati Private Reserve/Kruger National Park, High Tea & Game Drive
You are transferred to the airport for a quick flight to Hoedspruit and Kambaku River Sands. After settling in, lunch will be served with high tea to follow. Before the day ends you will embark on your first game safari in an open safari vehicle. Back at the lodge enjoy a drink around the log fire as you socialize with other guests from all over the world. Gather around the long dining table for a seated and served dinner, enjoying the sounds of the African night.
Timbavati Private Reserve, Guided Walk & Game Drive
A light breakfast will be served before leaving for your morning game activity. Enjoy a guided walk. Exploring the wilderness on foot will allow you to appreciate all the facets of the bush both big and small. Watch quietly as an elephant grazes nearby and learn about the world of termite mounds. This afternoon head out on a game drive. This location offers a good chance to see the ‘Big Five’. For dinner this evening you may wish to dine privately in the sunken wine cellar that overlooks the waterhole on the pool deck.
Timbavati Private Reserve, Day & Night Game Drive and Bird Hide
Days begin early in the bush, just after dawn you head out on a game drive to experience wildlife at its most active. Following breakfast you may head to the Bird Watching Hide. Siesta, then a delicious high tea followed by another game safari, as the sunsets are followed with a spotlight to take in the nocturnal wildlife. Return to camp after dark. Tonight you will enjoy a traditional African Boma dinner, sampling some local exotic dishes.
Flight to Victoria Falls, Zambezi River Cruise
After a few days in the wilderness it’s time to move on to your next location. A short flight takes you to Victoria Falls and the Victoria Falls River Lodge. Settle into your accommodation, enjoy gourmet pizzas and breads from the wood fired pizza oven while watching the spray of the falls in the distance. Spend a little time on the raised game-viewing platform overlooking the riverbed. This afternoon head out on a guided sunset river cruise. Sip your sun-downer whilst viewing creatures big and small, coming to the water’s edge to lap at the liquid life under molten skies. Your cruise lasts about two hours. Enjoy dinner back at the lodge this evening.
Victoria Falls, Tour of the Falls, Town & Afternoon Game Drive
Enjoy breakfast before transferring to the Victoria Falls for a guided tour. Nothing will quite prepare you for the sheer splendor of this breath-taking spectacle and World Heritage Site. Soak up the intimate knowledge your guide will share of the local flora and other points of historical interest. After your tour which lasts approx. two hours you will head to town where you may enjoy some curio shopping before going back to your lodge in time for lunch. This afternoon, you may enjoy a game drive through the Zambezi National Park, home to elephant, hippo, crocodile, buffalo, giraffe, zebra, sable, kudu, impala, wild dog and occasional big cats.
Flight to Khwai Concession/Okavango, High Tea & Game Drive
After your time in at the Falls it’s time to move on to Botswana and the Khwai Concession bordering the Okavango Delta. Upon arrival, you are served lunch and given a safety briefing. Settle into your tented room, high tea will be served and then you head out on an afternoon game drive before dinner.
Khwai Concession, Dugout Canoe Tour & Game Drive
A light breakfast will be served before leaving for your morning game activity. Enjoy a Mokoro dugout canoe tour where you glide over the shallow, clear waters of the delta with an expert guide. You’ll pass brilliant water lilies and papyrus grasses to areas that are inaccessible to motorized boats. This afternoon, enjoy a game drive, normally conducted along the river and flood plains around the camp. Chances are good that you will spot larger predators, herds of elephant and buffalo, as well as all the plains animals that occur here. As the sun sets, your guide will pull out the spotlight for your night drive, a chance to see smaller more nocturnal animals, before returning to camp for dinner. Dinner this evening will be around one large table shared by fellow travelers on the banks of the river, after which you gather around the fire pit for a night cap before retiring for the night to your comfortable luxury tent.
Flight to Maun & Departure
Today you leave Botswana and head back home, or to other parts of Africa. If you decide to get up early you may squeeze in one last game drive. After breakfast, you will depart on your light aircraft flight to Maun and connect to your scheduled commercial flight to Johannesburg where your Southern Africa experience ends. Your international flight should be booked out of Johannesburg no earlier than early evening.
