Day 1 – Morocco Desert Safari

Board your flight tonight for Africa!
Welcome to Morocco! You’ll be transferred to the Sofitel Casablanca Tour Blanche where you can spend of the day relaxing before starting your Morocco desert safari.
Meknes – Volubilis – Fez
After breakfast, drive to Meknes, the 17th century capital of Morocco. You will get a comprehensive tour of the city’s highlights and the Bab El Mansour gate which overlooks El Hedim square and the colorful food market. Continue to the ancient Roman city of Volubilis, the ancient capital of Mauretania Tingitane which was the capital of Mauritania during the reign of Juba II. Your guide will show you the House of Orpheus, the Baths of Gallienus, the Temple of Venus and the famous triumphal arch of Caracalla. At the end of the afternoon, drive to the city of Fez to check into the hotel.
After breakfast, drive to Fez, stopping at the Medina along the way. Founded in 808, the Fez Medina, the biggest pedestrian city in the world, has just celebrated its twelve centuries of existence. After lunch, visit the royal palace built as a summer residence for King Hassan. From here continue on to Fez El Jedid (new Fez) and the largest Jewish quarter in Morocco established in the late 15th century. Enjoy time to explore before returning to the hotel for overnight.
Fez – Middle Atlas – Erfoud
After breakfast, drive across the Middle Atlas mountain range, visit Swiss looking towns before heading onto the town of Midelt situated at 5000ft for lunch. In the afternoon head down across the plains before reaching the Kasbah-style hotel in Erfoud later in the day.
Desert drive and Camel transfer to Gold Sand Camp
Wake early and set out in a 4×4 vehicle into the desert. Enjoy breakfast Picnic in a remote location. Experience an existence beyond time, and be amazed by the immensity of the desert while driving through scattered villages. As you approach the town of Merzouga you will be met with camels for your transfer to camp.
Morocco Desert Safari and Skoura
After breakfast, continue exploring the desert by 4 X 4 vehicles and meet with some of the nomadic tribes in the Merzouga region on this Morocco desert safari. Learn about the way of life of the nomads and their centuries old traditions. Continue on to Skoura and Ksar El Kabbaba. After settling in enjoy a gourmet dinner in the property’s Nomad lounge. There’s no set menu here, as each dish is individually created from our collection of flavors including traditional, authentic, gourmet, fusion and contemporary.
Skoura Medina tour
This morning, visit Skoura’s famed mudbrick kasbahs and vast palmeraie, a UNESCO World Heritage site, for a gentle walk with your guide. Under this green canopy, a 15-mile patchwork of carefully tended garden plots are watered by an ingenious, centuries-old khettara system of locks, levers and canals. Return to Ksar El Kabbaba for a relaxing swim before dinner and overnight.
Skoura to Marrakesh
This morning, depart for the red city of Marrakesh. Enroute drive across spectacular barren plateau scattered with film sets & studios where a number of famous movies have been shot. Visit the UNESCO village of Ait Ben Haddou, one of the most beautiful examples of Berber architecture. After lunch continue to Marrakech and check into the lovely La Maison Arabe.
After breakfast, set out with a private guide for a full day exploring Marrakesh. Start the morning viewing the 12th century Koutoubia Mosque, before heading to the Kasbah, with is food market, bakeries and narrow alleyways. The afternoon involves guided walks though the artisan quarters and the colorful Souks to interact with the real life of Marrakesh people. End the afternoon in the main square Jemaa El Fna, where hundreds of locals and tourists come to spend the end of the day watching jugglers, dancers, fortune tellers and traditional musicians.
After breakfast, enjoy a morning tour of the gardens and museums of Marrakesh. Explore beautiful collections of Berber and sub Saharan artifacts, visit a museum displaying Yves Saint Laurent’s personal collection of Berber antiques and an Art Deco villa with the famous garden created by the orientalist Jacques Majorelle. Return to the hotel and the rest of the day will be at leisure.
