The African elephant is the largest animal walking the earth today and on this epic East African safari, you’ll come eye to eye with countless of these amazing creatures. Begin at the beloved Sheldrick Wildlife Trust Elephant Orphanage where you will learn about the important work this team is doing to save the African elephants, as well as watch a play session and feeding of the babies! Then travel east towards Amboseli National Park, where some of the largest herds of elephants in the region graze under the shadow of Mt Kilimanjaro. Next, head into Kenya’s great northern frontier where you can enjoy views of elephants drinking from a water hole below the ledge of an infinity swimming pool, surrounded by the dramatic Matthews Mountain Range. End your wildlife safari with three nights in the Masai Mara, home to the greatest concentration and density of wildlife in all of Kenya.

Itinerary at a Glance

Day 1

Nairobi, Kenya

Welcome to Kenya. As you begin your Kenyan safari, keep your eyes open for your first wildlife sighting as you fly directly over Nairobi National Park into Nairobi. After clearing customs, you’ll be transferred to the lush, green Nairobi suburb of Karen where you will be accommodated at Hemingways, a luxury boutique hotel at the foot of the Ngong Hills. Settle in and enjoy a delicious dinner before drifting off to sleep.

 

Day 2

Elephant Orphanage and Giraffe Center

After breakfast, take a walk through the well-manicured grounds of the hotel to the Giraffe Center where you can continue learning about Giraffe and the conservation efforts underway in Africa to protect these beautiful creatures. This afternoon, head to the Daphne Sheldrick Elephant Rescue Center where you can interact with orphaned baby elephants and watch as their caretakers put them to bed for the evening. Return to the hotel for dinner and overnight.

Day 3

Flight to Amboseli National Park, Afternoon Game Drive

After breakfast, you will be transferred to the domestic airport, where you will hop on a bush flight to the private conservancy within the Amboseli National Park, home to some of the largest and most beautiful elephants in Africa. Arrive at Tortilis Camp which offers the most magnificent views of Kilimanjaro. After lunch, a siesta and high tea, it’s time to head out in an open game drive vehicle to explore the wonders of the bush with your local Masai guide. Return to camp for sundowners around the firepit, followed by dinner with fellow travelers.

Day 4

Bush Walk, Afternoon Cultural and Community Visit

After your morning coffee head out on a guided walking safari through the bush. Having grown up in the local community, your Maasai guide will give you insight into the terrain and smaller creatures that are missed from a vehicle. Enjoy a delicious bush breakfast in the middle of the vast plains before being transferred back to camp. This afternoon visit a local Maasai homestead, where you can tour their homes, interact with their families and enjoy the fascinating traditional stories. Return to camp for dinner, drinks and a good night’s rest.

Day 5

Namunyak Wildlife Conservancy – Swimming and Game Drive

This morning, transfer to the airstrip for a flight to the Namunyak Wildlife Conservancy and Sarara Camp. Perched in far northern Kenya, this is a conservation success story and one of the most private safari experiences in Kenya. Arrive into camp for a late lunch and spend the afternoon relaxing by the infinity swimming pool, watching elephant and other game as they come to the watering hole below. After high tea, set out with your guide for an early evening game drive, enjoying elephant and giraffe in great numbers. As the sun sets look for the resident leopard near the river. Return to camp for dinner and your overnight stay.

Day 6

Singing Wells and Cultural Experience

This morning, you will experience one of the most sacred cultural experiences in Kenya; the Singing Wells. Drive a short distance to the dry river bed. Here, permanent wells are maintained by families and passed down from generation to generation. This water gives life to cattle and goats on which these local communities survive. You’ll watch the men and boys sing to their herds, who know each unique song and only drink when called for. Later, visit a local Samburu manyata and learn about the way these nomadic people live. Return to camp for an in-room massage and relaxing evening.

Day 7

Sarara Tree Camp, Forest Hike

After breakfast, enjoy a short morning game drive before heading to Sarara Tree Camp, raised right up into the tree canopy with breathtaking views over Mount Uarges. This afternoon head off on a hike through the montane forest of the Mathews Mountains, a perfect way to become one with nature. Return to camp for a traditional dinner under the stars and your overnight stay.

Day 8

Flight to Masai Mara, High Tea, Afternoon Game Drive

After breakfast, hop on a bush flight to the most iconic wildlife destination on the planet; the Masai Mara. Arrive at Mara Expedition Camp an intimate camp, built on a small bend in the Ntiakitiak River, where a thick riverine forest meets the unending savanna. After lunch, a siesta and high tea, it’s time to head into the Mara for some incredible wildlife viewing. Return to camp for sundowners around the fire pit, followed by dinner with fellow travelers.

Day 9

Masai Mara Game Drive, Afternoon Cultural and Community Visit

Wake up early to experience the vast number of wildlife species in the area. Head out on a game drive, returning to camp for a full hot breakfast. This afternoon you visit one of the neighboring villages, which is home to your guide’s family, for a highly personal glimpse of his life, all done with sensitivity ensuring it remains both unobtrusive and intimate. Return to camp for dinner, drinks and your overnight stay.

Day 10

Masai Mara Game Drive & Hot Air Balloon Ride

This morning wake early for a once in a lifetime experience; a hot air balloon ride over the plains and the wildebeest migration. After silently gliding over Africa’s big game for an hour, enjoy a champagne breakfast in the bush. Spend the afternoon relaxing, reading and resting in camp before heading out on an afternoon game drive. Return to camp for dinner and your overnight stay.

Day 11

Travel Home

Fly back to Nairobi to connect with your onward flight home to conclude this magical Kenyan safari.
