Your Kenyan safari starts at the world famous Nairobi Giraffe Manor, boutique hotel set in 12 acres of private land where the Rothschild giraffe roam morning and night (2 nights), Masai Mara Game Reserve Rekero Camp (4 nights), Chyulu Hills Campi Ya Kanzi (3 nights), Tsavo National Park Ithumba Camp, the only camp in the 3000 square kilometer area reserved for members visiting their adopted orphaned elephants being reintroduced into the wild (1 night), Samburu Reserve Sasaab Camp, astounding number of animals from majestic elephants to lion, leopard and cheetah, take in the remarkable views across the Laikipia Plateau toward Mt Kenya (3 nights).

Itinerary at a Glance

Day 1 – Your Kenyan Safari

Nairobi, Kenya – Arrival

Welcome to Kenya! As you begin your Kenyan safari, keep your eyes open for your first wildlife sightings as you land in Nairobi, as you will fly directly over Nairobi National Park, immediately adjacent to the airport. After you clear customs, you’ll be transferred to the lush, green Nairobi suburb of Karen and the iconic Giraffe Manor. Settle in and enjoy a delicious dinner before drifting to sleep.

 

Day 2

Breakfast with Giraffe, Elephant Orphanage and Giraffe Center

This morning, you’ll enjoy breakfast alongside Giraffe Manor’s resident Rothschild giraffe. This is a coveted stop on any Kenyan safari. After breakfast, take a walk through the well-manicured grounds of the hotel to the Giraffe Center where you can continue learning about Giraffe and conservation efforts underway in Africa to protect         these beautiful creatures. This afternoon, head to the Daphne Sheldrick Elephant Rescue Center where you can interact with baby orphaned elephants and watch as their caretakers put them to bed for the evening. Return to the hotel for dinner and overnight.

Day 3

Flight to Masai Mara, High Tea, afternoon Game Drive

After breakfast, you will be transferred about 30 minutes to the domestic airport where you will hop on a quick bush flight to the most iconic wildlife destination on the planet; the Masai Mara. Arrive at Rekero Camp, a traditional East African camp perched above the Talek River. After lunch, a siesta and high tea, it’s time to head into the Mara for some incredible wildlife viewing. Return to camp for sundowners around the firepit, followed by dinner with fellow travelers.

Day 4

Masai Mara Game Drive, Afternoon Cultural & Community Visit

Wake up early to experience the vast number of wildlife species in the area. Head out on a game drive, returning to camp for a full hot breakfast. This afternoon head out to one of the neighboring villages, which is home to your guide’s family, for a highly personal experience into his life, all done with sensitivity to ensure it remains both unobtrusive and intimate. Back to camp for dinner, drinks and a good night’s rest!

Day 5

Kenyan Safari  – Masai Mara Game Drive & Hot Air Balloon Ride

This morning, wake early for a truly once in a lifetime experience; hot air balloon ride over the plains and the wildebeest migration. After silently gliding over Africa’s big game for an hour, enjoy a champagne breakfast in the bush. Spend the afternoon relaxing, reading and resting in camp before heading out on an afternoon game drive. Never missing a moment to learn about and view the African wildlife. Return to camp for dinner and overnight.

Day 6

Maasai Mara Big Cat Experience and Horse Riding

This morning, learn more from a Kenya Wildlife Trust researcher about regional efforts to protect big cats. This area is home to cheetah, leopard and lion made famous by BBC and Disney wildlife documentaries. This afternoon, head out on horseback for a lovely ride in the private conservancy, followed by sundowners before dinner in camp. [Bookings are essential for these experiences]

Day 7

Flight to Chyulu Hills, Game Drive and Walking Safari

After breakfast, enjoy a final game drive in the Mara and then you transfer to the airstrip to board your bush flight to the rolling Chyulu Hills. Take in the picture perfect views of Mt. Kilimanjaro as you land and transfer to camp. After lunch, head out for a game drive in an open Land Rover with a professional guide and Maasai tracker. Get out of the vehicle from time to time to stretch your legs alongside your Kenyan safari guide and tracker, exploring this unique cloud forest habitat. Return to camp for dinner and overnight.

Day 8

Chyulu Hills Maasai Experience & Bush Walk

Today, you’ll have an amazing opportunity to visit your Maasai tracker’s home, in his village, to learn about Maasai culture. Learn about the Maasai Wilderness Conservation trust and the work they are doing to protect the people and wildlife of this special area. After lunch you head out on foot with your Maasai tracker into the 283,000 acres of wilderness, all this to yourself, no other lodges, and no other people, just hundreds of small, voluptuous green mounds composed of ash cones and craters, and valleys of lush green forest spread between the hills to form this landscape of startling beauty, backed by the drop-dead view of Kilimanjaro in the near distance. Sometime this afternoon you will return to camp for dinner.

Day 9

Tsavo National Park, Elephant Rescue Center

This morning, after breakfast, you hop on a light aircraft and fly over the spectacular scenery to Tsavo and Ithumba Camp for a very special elephant encounter. Here you will visit with researchers from the Daphne Sheldrick Elephant Rescue Center and see where these elephants are released back into the wild. Learn about this immensely successful rehabilitation program and what they have learned about elephants over the past several decades. Watch as the elephants get their midday mud-bath and feeding sessions, guided by the center this experience can be hands on and interactive, depending on the well-being of the elephants. Dinner and overnight.

 

Day 10

Chuylu Hills, Horse Riding and Cave Dinner

This morning after breakfast you head back to the center and enjoy watching the elephants have their morning mud-bath then hop on your flight to return to Campi ya Kanzi. After lunch you will head out on horseback, as the sunsets you arrive at a scenic spot for sundowners with the backdrop of Mt Kilimanjaro. Tonight, you will enjoy a final dinner in a huge cave, where the Maasai historically hid their cattle they were raiding from the Wakamba, a tribe living on the other side of the Chyulu Hills.

Day 11

Samburu National Park, High Tea and Game Drive

This morning, transfer by bush flight to Samburu National Park. Located in Kenya’s Northern Frontier District, wildlife congregates around the life-giving Ewaso Nyiro River. Here, the elephant population is healthy and has been well documented by several research groups. After high tea, set out with a local Samburu guide on a game drive and enjoy sundowners on the famed “sundowner rock,’ offering epic views of the big sky and arid landscape as the sun sets. Return to camp for dinner.

Day 12

Samburu National Park – Camel Ride and Game Drive

This morning, join your Samburu guide for a safari by camel. Walk along the river, spotting wildlife up close at a leisurely pace. After lunch, head out for a game drive, perhaps stopping by the elephant research center to speak with local researchers. Return to camp for dinner and overnight.

Day 13

Samburu National Park, Game Drive and Samburu Cultural Excursion

Toda is your last full day of your Kenyan safari. After breakfast head out on a game drive, the reserve is well known for its astounding number of animals from huge majestic elephant to lion, leopard and cheetah plus a variety of plains game. Lunch will be enjoyed under the shade of a huge acacia tree. You then proceed with your guide to a local Samburu village, where you get to learn about their culture and traditions. Take a leisurely game drive back to camp. Depending on your arrival time back at camp we highly recommend you spend some time being pampered in the award-winning spa at Sasaab. Dinner and overnight.

Travel Home

Fly back to Nairobi to connect with your onward flight home and conclude this magical Kenyan safari.
