Arrival in Delhi – Imperial Hotel

Welcome to India!

Arrive and transfer to the Imperial Hotel for check-in (standard check-in is at 2 PM). Stroll through the art laden corridors of the Imperial and feel history come alive.

In the late afternoon, visit the Lodhi Gardens to offset the jetlag from your long flight. This is one of the most popular picnic spots in the city. The tombs and walled monuments within the 90-acre space of undulating greens lend a sense of grandeur and significance to what might otherwise have been just a pretty garden. This lush green park houses the legacy of the Lodhi’s, making it a perfect combination of heritage and nature.

Full Day City Tour of New Delhi

This morning the sightseeing of New Delhi will take you past memorials, impressive architecture and historical sites throughout the city. Your expert guide will bring colorful stories of conquerors and heroics, interesting historic facts and insight into the culture. Visit sites such as the India Gate, Rashtrapati Bwawan, Parliament House, and Humayun’s Tomb. Conclude your city tour with a stop at the Qutub Minar, which towers 230 feet (70 meters) over the plains of Delhi.

Late in the day, step out to enjoy a rickshaw ride to Khari Baoli, a street near the Red Fort that houses Asia’s largest wholesale spice market, which has been operating since the 17th century. Many of the shops are run by the ninth or tenth generation of the founders of the market. Visit Mehar Chand and Sons, which has been selling spices here for more than a century to meet the merchants and learn about India’s masala spice blend teas from a master blender. Let the spice market fill your senses and mind with smells, sounds, and sights unlike anything else. End your day over high tea and kite flying lessons.

New Delhi to Agra – The Oberoi Amarvillas

After breakfast, depart by road to Agra, fondly known as the city of Taj. The iconic Taj Mahal is the greatest monument to love on Earth and one of the wonders of the modern world, constructed by Emperor Shah Jehan as a mausoleum for his beloved queen Mumtaz Mahal. Spend some time admiring the impressive building and the beautiful gardens. No trip to Agra is complete without a visit to the red sandstone Agra Fort, which stands like a crescent on the banks of the Yamuna River, built by three successive Mughal emperors in the 1600s. Following a day of touring, return to the sanctuary of your hotel.

Agra to Jaipur – Rambagh Palace

This morning witness the sunrise bathing the Taj Mahal in pastels, which is simply stunning. Following this breathtaking experience, return to your hotel for breakfast on the green lawns with views of the Taj Mahal. Next, travel by road to Jaipur with an excursion at Abhaneri Step Well. Abhaneri is a small village in ruins but home to the early medieval monuments, Chand Baori and Harshat Mata temple. Chand Baori is a huge step well, a water reservoir and an architectural marvel.

Full Day City Tour of Jaipur

After a wonderful breakfast, compliments of the Michelin star chefs at the palace, drive to the Amer Fort which was the capital for six centuries before Jaipur was built. Rising majestically on the slopes of a hill, this 11th century fort and palace complex is a blend of Hindu and Muslim styles. Then explore Jaipur, built of rose-pink sandstone by the great astronomer-king Jai Singh II in 1727. Investigate the City Palace and museum containing rare manuscripts, fine specimens of Rajput and Mughal paintings, royal apparel and an armory. Continue on visiting other landmark sites in Jaipur, like Jantar Mantar (Observatory) which houses incredibly accurate huge stone instruments devised to study the movements of the sun, moon, and planets. Also pass by the Hawa Mahal (Palace of Winds), one of the famous pink buildings with a honeycomb design and octagonal overhanging windows. Wander through colorful bazaars, a veritable collector’s paradise where you can observe ancient crafts of cloth printing, miniature paintings on cotton or silk, statues hand-carved in wood or bone, fine metalwork and the renowned blue pottery of Jaipur.

Jaipur to Varanasi – Taj Nadesar

Today fly to the sacred city of Varanasi. Delve into the roots of Buddhism on a sojourn to Sarnath, where it is believed that Lord Buddha preached his first sermon after attaining Enlightenment at Bodh Gaya. As locals and tourists gather on the riverbanks (known as ghats), prayers are offered to the sacred river in a moving and serene experience. Following the prayers, return and relax back at your hotel which is steeped in history and set among mango orchards.


Dev Deepawali Celebrations in Varanasi

Today is the culmination of a month-long celebration of the gods, known as Dev Deepawali It’s believed that gods descend to Earth on this auspicious day in the holy city of Varanasi. The spiritual energy on the banks of Varanasi is palpable and it defies words.

On Dev Deepawali, devotees take a holy dip in Ganges and light earthen lamps (diyas) in the evening. When evening falls, the city warmly glows with the light of millions of lamps on the steps the ghats of the Ganges and around the temples. Enjoy the festivities and mingle with celebrants into the evening before returning to your hotel.

Depart New Delhi

This morning embark on a spiritually cleansing boat ride which reveals the holiness of Varanasi. Glide by morning rituals and take in special features of different ghats including a burning ghat where the dead are cremated.

Following your tour, return to your hotel for breakfast and check-out. Transfer by road the airport for your flight to Delhi, where you will be met and transferred to a hotel for your dayroom.  In the evening, transfer to the airport for your departing homeward bound flight.
