The Victoria and Alfred Waterfront is Cape Town’s vibrant hub, and where your Southern Africa safari begins. Spend a few days exploring this colorful city, where you will sample South Africa’s best wines, innovative dining and visit the Cape of Good Hope, with a history dating back to the 15th century. This region makes up only 0.5% of Africa, and yet it is home to more than 20% of the continent’s plants. Continue your journey on board the luxurious Rovos Rail train. Traverse South Africa’s Highveld grasslands and the Great Karoo, en route to Johannesburg. Next, fly north to the spectacular Victoria Falls. The Royal Livingstone Hotel, located on the Zambian side of the great Zambezi river, serves up colonial luxury with the best views of the falls. And finally, wrap up your adventure in Botswana’s Okavango Delta. Here, you’ll have exclusive access to Africa’s big game. Day 1 – Your Southern Africa Safari

Cape Town and V&A Waterfront

Welcome to Africa! Arrive and transfer to the iconic Cape Grace hotel. After settling in, walk out to the bustling V&A water front and enjoy dinner at one of the many fantastic local restaurants.

Day 2

Cape Town Cableway and Robben Island

After breakfast, set out with your guide for a full day exploration of Cape Town. First, head to the Cableway, a fun way to reach the top of Table Mountain, taking in the dramatic views of the city and ocean below. Stop for lunch at the Greenmarket Square before boarding a boat to visit Robben Island. Head back to the hotel for dinner and overnight.

Day 3

Cape Town Beaches

Today, explore some of Cape Town’s most epic beaches, including Boulders Beach, Camp’s Bay, and Clifton Beach. Finally, head to the Cape of Good Hope and Cape Point. Extending south from Cape Town is the Cape of Good Hope, the peninsula that divides the Atlantic Ocean and False Bay. Cape Point, a jagged, narrow strip of land that juts out into the Atlantic and acts as the continent’s southwestern-most point. Standing here will leave you feeling like you’ve reached the edge of the world.

Day 4

Rovos Rail Train Journey

This morning, board the Rovos Rail for your train journey across southern Africa. This afternoon, disembark for a tour of the picturesque village of Matjiesfontein, a perfectly preserved Victorian railway village and a National Monument. Enjoy a gourmet meal and overnight on the train.

Day 5

Rovos Rail and Diamond Mine Museum

As your train journey continues, again disembark this afternoon for a tour of the Diamond Mine Museum in Kimberly. Just 150 years ago, the site of Kimberley’s Big Hole diamond mine was nothing more than an everyday, flat-topped hill. Today, the famed site owns the title of largest man-made excavation in the world and features a colossal 214-meter hole from which over 2722 kilograms of diamonds have been extracted. Enjoy dinner and overnight aboard the train.

Day 6

Johannesburg – Southern Africa Safari

This morning, arrive into Pretoria and transfer to Johannesburg. Along the way, visit the Apartheid Museum and Constitution Hill before heading to Josiburg Lane, a market located in a magnificent art deco building. Browse artists’ studios, graze on cheese platters, curries and traditional African eats in the hip eateries and sip on good coffee and craft beer before arriving at the Saxon hotel in the late afternoon. Settle in and enjoy dinner and overnight here.

Day 7

Zambezi River Cruise

This morning, fly onward to Victoria Falls. Arrive at the Royal Livingstone in time for a late lunch. This evening, sit back, relax and take in the surrounding views of the great Zambezi River aboard a small boat, one of the gems of this southern Africa safari. From this unique vantage point, view birdlife and wildlife up-close on the islands along the river.

Day 8

Victoria Falls Scenic Flight and Tour

Today, explore the largest sheet of falling water in the world! Board a helicopter for a scenic flight one the falls. Viewing the spectacular Victoria Falls from the air is one of the most breath-taking and exhilarating activities in Africa! Afterwards, enjoy a private guided tour of the mighty ‘Smoke That Thunders.’ Return to the hotel for dinner and overnight.

Day 9

Okavango Delta Day and Night Game Drive

This morning the wildlife on this southern Africa safari continues! Fly to Botswana, arriving at Little Vumbura in Botswana’s Okavango Delta late in the afternoon. Your guide will pick you up at the airstrip and on the way to camp enjoy your first game drive in Botswana. Situated on a beautiful island in a private concession in the northern reaches of the Okavango Delta, enjoy great game viewing right from camp. After high tea, head out for an early evening game drive, stopping for sundowner cocktails. Take a moment to appreciate the pristine wilderness as the sky turns fire orange before nightfall. Return to camp in the dark, using a spotlight to see nocturnal creatures as they emerge for the evening.

Day 10

Okavango Delta Game Drive, Mokoro Safari and Bush Walk

This morning head out for an early morning game drive.  After lunch and an afternoon rest, hop into a traditional wooden canoe, called a Mokoro, for a game experience on the water. As you glide silently through the waterways, watch elephant drink, birds fishing for their dinner and perhaps even catch a glimpse of a predator on the banks. After high tea, experience the thrill of walking in the bush! Accompanied by an armed guide, walk slowly from camp, learning more about tracking the wildlife and big game that surrounds camp. Return to camp for dinner and overnight.

Day 11

Moremi Wildlife Reserve Game Drive

After breakfast, transfer to the other side of the Okavango Delta and the Moremi Wildlife Reserve. Arrive at Chitabe Camp in time for lunch, and enjoy the private concession area that plays host to a breathtaking mosaic of open floodplains, waterways, marshlands, dry acacia and mopane woodland, riverine forest and open grasslands, the area is famed for its incredible numbers and diversity of wildlife, in particular predators. After lunch, set out for an extended game drive, ending with sundowners before heading back to camp for dinner and overnight.

Day 12

Bush Breakfast and Leopard Tracking

This morning, set out on a morning game drive around camp. End the morning adventure with a hot breakfast served out in the bush. After a restful afternoon in camp, set out with a specialist guide to track Leopard. Learn more about these elusive creatures as you follow their tracks. Return to camp for dinner and overnight.

Day 13

Travel Home

Your epic southern Africa safari has come to an end. Transfer back to Johannesburg for your return flight home.
