Rothschild Southern Africa Odyssey

12 days

Timing is everything when your Safari starts at Victoria Falls. Our Travel Designers understand that there are two seasons here; Devil’s Pool and Moonbow. And they will match the flavor of the Falls seamlessly to your personality.

Something else they know? How to arrange a very private and totally spoiling experience of one of the most popular wonders in the world.

When the lack of madding crowds becomes a little much, you will be whisked off, across the shortest border in the world, to Botswana, where you will be surrounded by the biggest concentration of African elephants on the continent. Here you will sleep, like Prince Harry and his love, in a Fly-Camp and in a classic Okavango Camp, on a palm island, in the heart of the largest inland delta in the world.

It is a good idea to leave Africa gently and so we arrange for you to say your farewells in Cape Town. Where exquisite cuisine and shopping, charming beaches and fascinating culture will soften the blow. It is also the smallest and richest floral kingdom in the world, with 7,000 plants found nowhere else in the world.

Why does Cape Town make saying goodbye to Africa easier? Because it provides the perfect backdrop to dreaming and planning your next African Safari.

Day 1

Victoria Falls and Zambezi River Cruise

Welcome to Africa. Upon arrival you will be transferred to the award winning Tongabezi. This evening, take in the surrounding views of the great Zambezi River from your small boat with your private river guide. From this unique vantage point, view birdlife and wildlife up close on the islands along the river.

Day 2

Scenic Flight over Victoria Falls and Tour

Today, explore the largest sheet of falling water in the world. Board a helicopter for a scenic flight of the falls. Viewing the spectacular Victoria Falls from the air is one of the most breath-taking and exhilarating activities in Africa. Afterwards, enjoy a private guided tour of the mighty ‘Smoke That Thunders.’ Return to Tongabezi for dinner and overnight.

Day 3

Linyanti Reserve Game Drive

Your wildlife safari continues. After breakfast, fly to Selinda Camp, located on the banks of the eastern Selinda Spillway in northern Botswana’s startlingly beautiful and remote 320,000-acre Selinda Reserve. This afternoon, head out on a game drive in one of the camp’s Land Rovers, customized for photographers. Kitted out with fold-down screens, raised roofs, photographic bars, and multi-plug invertors, Selinda Camp is a photographers dream. Return to camp for dinner and overnight.

Day 4

Linyanti Reserve Bush Walk and Game Drives

Awake early, setting out on a morning game drive as the sun is rising. Stop for a light breakfast served from the hood of your Land Rover. Then, set out on foot, walking back to camp in the company of an armed ranger. Walking in the bush allows you to see and learn about the smaller elements impossible to see from the vehicle. After lunch, visit the hide, where you can view wildlife (while you remain out of sight of course) as they come to the water hole.

Day 5

Bush Breakfast and Fly-Camp Sleep Out

This morning, enjoy an extended morning game drive, culminating in a hot bush breakfast. Enjoy a delicious, hearty breakfast in the shade of a towering Mopane tree. After a relaxing afternoon in camp, head out on an afternoon game drive, arriving at your private fly-camp for dinner and overnight. Sleep out under a simple mosquito net on a raised platform under the African stars.

Day 6

Botswana, Okavango Delta

The wildlife safari in Botswana continues. Transfer to Baines camp in the Okavango Delta. Your guide will pick you up at the airstrip and on the way to camp enjoy your first game drive in Botswana. Nestled on a lush palm island in the heart of the northern Okavango Delta, Shinde is an intimate, classic camp located on the edge of Shinde Lagoon, which simply teems with animal and birdlife. Settle in and enjoy dinner and overnight in camp.

Day 7

Okavango Delta Game Drive and Mokoro Safari

This morning head out for an early morning game drive. After lunch and an afternoon rest, hop into a traditional wooden canoe, called a Mokoro, for a game experience on the water. As you glide silently through the waterways, watch elephants drink, birds fishing for their dinner and perhaps even catch a glimpse of a predator on the banks.

Day 8

Okavango Delta Walking Safari and Night Game Drive

Today experience the thrill of walking in the bush. Accompanied by an armed guide, walk slowly from camp, learning more about tracking the wildlife and big game that surrounds camp. After lunch and an afternoon rest, head out for an early evening game drive, stopping for sundowner cocktails. Take a moment to appreciate the pristine wilderness as the sky turns fire orange before nightfall. Return to camp in the dark, using a spotlight to see nocturnal creatures as they emerge for the evening.

Day 9

Cape Town

This morning, transfer from your safari in Botswana to Cape Town, one of the most beloved cities in the world. Arrive at Victoria & Alfred, a boutique hotel in the heart of Cape Town. After settling in, walk towards Kloof Street and enjoy dinner at one of the many fantastic local restaurants.

Day 10

Cape Town Cableway, V&A Waterfront and Robben Island

After breakfast, set out with your guide for a full day exploration of Cape Town. First, head to the Cableway, a fun way to reach the top of Table Mountain, taking in the dramatic views of the city and ocean below. Continue on towards the Victoria & Alfred waterfront, stopping for lunch at Greenmarket Square. Hop on a boat to visit Robben Island before heading back to the hotel for dinner and overnight.

Day 11

Cape Town Beaches

Today, explore some of Cape Town’s most epic beaches, including Boulders Beach, Camp’s Bay, and Clifton Beach. Finally, head to the Cape of Good Hope and Cape Point. Extending south from Cape Town is the Cape of Good Hope, the peninsula that divides the Atlantic Ocean and False Bay. Cape Point, a jagged, narrow strip of land that juts out into the Atlantic and is the continent’s southwestern-most point. Standing here will leave you feeling like you’ve reached the edge of the world.
