Nairobi, Kenya – Arrival

Welcome to Kenya! Keep your eyes open for your first wildlife sightings as you land in Nairobi, as you will fly directly over Nairobi National Park, immediately adjacent to the airport. After you clear customs, you’ll be transferred to the historic Norfolk hotel. Built in 1904, the hotel continues to be a favorite first night on this Tanzania luxury safari. Grab a light meal on the Lord Delemere terrace before heading to bed.

Day 2

Flight to Masai Mara and Mara North Conservancy

After breakfast, transfer to the domestic airport and hop on a bush plane for your flight to the Masai Mara. You’ll be met at the airstrip and transferred to Mara Offbeat in the Mara North Conservancy, spotting game and wildlife along the way. Enjoy lunch and settle into your safari tent before heading out on an evening game drive. In the conservancy, you’ll rarely see other safari vehicles as there are only a few camps in this exclusive area. Head back to camp for dinner and overnight.

Day 3

Game Drive in Maasai Mara Game Reserve

After a cup of coffee and some light biscuits, head out towards the Masai Mara Game Reserve for a full morning in the park. As the sun rises, stop under a tree for a hot breakfast right in the bush! Continue on spotting wildlife like lion, cheetah, elephant and perhaps even the Wildebeest migration! Return back to camp in time for a late lunch and afternoon siesta. After tea, head out for another game drive in the conservancy or for a guided bush walk. Dinner and overnight in camp.

Day 4

Hot Air Balloon over the Mara Plains and Bush Walk

This morning, wake early for a truly once in a lifetime experience; hot air balloon ride over the Mara plains. After silently gliding over Africa’s big game for an hour, enjoy a champagne breakfast in the bush. Spend the afternoon relaxing, reading and resting in camp before heading out on an afternoon bush walk.  Tonight enjoy sundowners around the campfire followed by a traditional dinner under the stars, communal style.

Day 5

Flight to Serengeti, Afternoon Game Drive

This morning, take a short flight across the border into Tanzania and the northern tip of the Serengeti. Arrive at Olakira Camp in time for a late lunch and afternoon rest. Return to camp for a cozy, family-style dinner and overnight that is just a glimpse of the comfort of our Tanzania luxury safari accommodations.

Game Drive and Bush Dinner

This morning, set out early for another game drive in the area. Return to camp for a late brunch and leisurely afternoon. After high tea, head out for a game drive that will lead you to a spectacular bush dinner set up for you under the Africa stars!

Day 7 – Tanzania Luxury Safari Experiences

Cultural Visit and Sundowners

After an early morning game drive, visit one of the nearby local villages. Spend the afternoon visiting one of the local school or the marketplace, an excellent opportunity to learn about the local Kuria community. Spend your last night at Olakira Camp watching the sun set from a favorite sundowner location with amazing views before returning to camp.

Day 8

Eastern Serengeti and Walking at Namiri Plains

After breakfast, transfer by game drive to Namiri Plains, a remote camp in the Northern Serengeti. With no other camp within an hour’s drive, this area is wild, exclusive and known for excellent predator sightings. After lunch and a restful afternoon, head out on foot with an armed guide. Walking in this remote wilderness is thrilling and an excellent way to experience some of the smaller creatures of the African bush. Return to camp for dinner and overnight.

Day 9

Cheetah Research Experience

Join resident cheetah researchers on a search for cheetah on the open plains of the Serengeti. This is an excellent opportunity to learn more about these endangered big cats, some of the challenges they face in Africa today. [Booking this experience is essential]

Day 10

Ngorongoro Highlands and Organic Farm Tour

This morning, travel by game drive through the Serengeti to the lush Ngorongoro highlands. Arrive at Gibbs Farm in the late afternoon, and after settling in enjoy a walk through the on site organic farm.  Experience a local working organic farm including over 10 acres of fruit and vegetable gardens and 30 acres of coffee. Try your hand at milking a cow while the staff answers questions about their sustainable farming methods. Enjoy a lovely dinner fresh from the garden this evening!

Day 11

Ngorongoro Crater Full day Game Drive

Set out early for the nearby Ngorongoro Crater, either by drive or for the more adventurous on foot (which is a 6-7 hour round trip hike). The crater is a huge volcanic caldera formed about 2.5 million years ago when a giant volcano exploded and collapsed on itself. Here you can view the Big Five in high concentration with a stunning backdrop of the crater walls. Return to Gibbs Farm for dinner and overnight.

Day 12

Lake Manyara Game Drive and Lake Burunge Sundowners

After breakfast, set out for Little Chem Chem, located between Tarangire and Lake Manyara National Parks in a prolific wildlife corridor. Enjoy a game drive through Lake Manyara en-route. This evening, head to nearby Lake Burunge for a stunning sundowner complete with cocktails and bitings.

Day 13

Game Drive in Tarangire National Park and Flamingoes on Lake Manyara

Today with a packed gourmet picnic lunch you will set out on a game drive into Tarangire National Park.  Known for its high density of elephants and baobab trees, this park is popular from June to November where you can expect to see the large herds in the thousands. You will enjoy a full day in the heart of the reserve, returning to camp in time to shower up and prepare for another lovely dinner. Private dining options are available.

Day 14

Private Conservancy Game Drive, Lake Manyara Bush Lunch & Flamingoes

This morning set out for a game drive right on the Chem Chem conservancy, where you can experience prolific elephant numbers along with plenty of other wildlife. Day 15

Cultural Tour and Tanzania Walking safari

Spend your last day at Little Chem Chem tracking wildlife on foot with an armed guide. There is no better way to take in the little things than on foot, which you miss out on from the back of a safari vehicle. This afternoon after lunch and high tea, expand your cultural horizons and meet Mama Lekshoni, youngest wife of one of the main Maasai chiefs of this area. Her sons work in the Wildlife Management Area, and she offers privileged access to her home in the local village, 40 minutes from Chem Chem Lodge.  Sundowners and dinner back at the camp.
