Located at the foot of snow-capped Mount Kenya, you will find this secluded 250-acre estate, on a ridge so high with the most spectacular views in every direction.  The main house is set amongt game-rich indigenous forests, the Kenyan hills and plains.

To the north the panorama stretches across Lewa Downs and the country’s northern frontier towards Samburu, to the west the vast expanse of the conservancy and to the south, ancient forests and the iconic outline of Mount Kenya. The high altitude around 6500 feet, this region is malaria free.

Staggering views from every room, Sirai sits gently in its surroundings, at one with its native African flora and fauna. Each cottage stands apart for privacy and seclusion, creating a personal space to retreat yet always in contact with the main house by phone for anything you require.  Each suite is perfectly contained within itself with fires, bathrooms, verandas and outdoor showers.

What you eat, where you eat and when you eat at Sirai is at your discretion, each meal an experience of delight and wonder, prepared by chef George whose knowledge and enthusiasm are evident on every plate. Menus start at roots level with their commitment to self-sufficiency and sustainability. Nearly all the fruits and vegetables used in meals are grown in their gardens. Eggs and poultry are from their own chickens, beef is from the Borana cattle herds and all game is locally sourced. Even the honey is from their own bees. Catering to all food requirements no matter what your dietary requests.

On warm evenings dinner is in the olive grove terrace, the boma with chairs encircling the huge fire, for a seafood barbecue or the best selection of burgers with every imaginable accompaniment. Or you may wish to cosy up by the fire with a bowl of soup or eat wood-fired pizza in the cinema, this is your end to the day, served your way and as variable as the number of nights you spend at Sirai.

After dinner enjoy viewing the glorious night sky from the powerful automatic digital Meade LS8 telescope, and during the day use this to spot game.

Your days are spent just exactly as you like.

  • Some mornings are spent lounging by the pool, playing tennis or reading a book in a shaded bed on the lawn. Long leisurely lunches with the pool bar on one end, a shaded seating area for drinks and a log-fired pizza oven.
  • Beside the pool edge stand large double daybeds, each with a shaded parasol and views across the Borana Reserve and the Kenyan plains.
  • Lawns can be set up for croquet, or enjoy table-tennis, or boules.
  • Riding safaris – experienced riders enjoy exploring the reserve from the saddle or you may wish to enjoy a overnight at their luxury campside. Whether you ride or not, a visit to the stables is a wonderful experience. Stroke the velvet muzzles of the beautiful mares and their foals in the stables and paddocks, or watch them being schooled in the menage.
  • At night enjoy a game of billiards, or settle by the fire with a vintage cognac or port.
  • Choose from 500 movies in the cinema.
  • Staying fit – enjoy the 20m infinity pool, enjoy the free weights, cardio machines, yoga and pilates equipment or enjoy a run along the 2km track that loops within the secure animal fencing of the property. If you wish you may run in the open bush accompanied by local Masai.
  • Enjoy a game of tennis on the beautiful clay court or retreat to the spa for a restorative treatment.
  • Game drives are at your whim day or night, completely secure within their luxurious custom Land Rovers you will enjoy the knowledge of your guide, learn about his heritage and his love of the abundant wildlife and flora to be found in the reserve.
  • Walking safaris with your guide offers the thrill of observing large game on foot, a memory that will never leave you.
  • Helicopter excursions take you to the northern reaches of Kenya, to the Singing Wells to witness the century-old sacred tradition of the Ol Donyo Wasin fetching water from these deep wells for their livestock. Or enjoy a trip to Lake Bogoria and peer down at the nesting site of one of the world’s largest flamingo flocks
