Operations Project Manager
What are the makings of a travel professional?
Maybe it begins when a 10-year-old girl, brown curls always dangling over books, who walks into her local travel agency for brochures to include in her school project on a European country. Captivated by what she discovered about the history, culture, and food of Italy, she continued to add countries to her project…eventually, presenting them ALL to her teacher. And then, still not entirely satisfied, she made an itinerary, painstakingly figuring out logistics on how one day she would visit the most countries in a month and how long to spend in each place. Many amazing itineraries (and an undisclosed number of years) later, we are proud to have Nicole on the Rothschild Safaris team.
Now a travel veteran—both personally and professionally, Nicole has been involved in all aspects of the industry for over 20 years; travel designing, coordinating outbound and inbound operations, and marketing a global portfolio of properties and tour companies. She joins us to manage various projects on the operations side of the business and keeps our content updated and accurate.
Being somewhat nomadic for most of her adult life, Nicole has lived in East Africa, the Middle East, and all over the United States. She stopped counting at 40 stamps from six continents in her passport, but the home of her heart is Africa. The past few years have kept her exploring closer to home with her husband and two small boys, but Nicole looks forward to sharing the world with them. Adventures big and small are always on the horizon!
My current passion is… swimming, scavenger hunts, and spending time with my boys.
I have wandered to… Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda, Rwanda, Botswana, Zambia, Zimbabwe, South Africa, Australia, Tahiti, Canada, Guatemala, Belize, Nicaragua, Costa Rica, Panama, Peru, Bolivia, St. Kitts & Nevis, The Bahamas, Mexico, China, Hong Kong, Vietnam, Thailand, Cambodia, India, United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, Oman, England, Scotland, Ireland, France, Spain, The Netherlands, Belgium, Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Poland, Hungary, Czech Republic, and Croatia.
These places inspire me…I simply adore Kenya—it is where my heart first fell in love with Africa. One of my favorite places is Serian Camp in the Mara North Conservancy because it was built as a respite from civilization and it very much feels like a home in the bush. I am in love with Thailand as well—for its resilient people, outstanding cuisine, and rich culture. There are so many places that energize me and I want to discover more!
Memorable moments…The first time my family members joined me on Safari I was traveling in Uganda with my mom, aunt, and cousin. The sun was setting over the stunning plains of Queen Elizabeth National Park and we had stopped to observe the end of the day quietly. As dusk gathered, the shadows began to move, and an entire herd of elephants materialized before our eyes—silently stepping and staying close to each other, trunks touching. I was overcome with the beauty of the moment and how that proud matriarch was leading her family of daughters, aunts, and cousins to a safe place for the night. I looked at my own mother, aunt, and cousin and saw that we all had tears in our eyes as it dawned on us that we were not so different from that herd. Family bonds are strong. As the last light slipped from the sky, the elephants surrounded us and then slipped away into the darkness. It was simply breath-taking.
