They say you don’t need a holiday. You simply need Cape Town.
Only, there is so much to do in the Mother City, I’m starting to think what you really need is a lifetime. Unfortunately, this time around, we only had two days.
Where to stay
Ellerman House is a beautiful house that feels like a personal residence… which just happens to have a full complement of staff at your beck and call. In Bantry Bay, it’s within walking distance from Cape Town’s waterfront, yet still quietly tucked away from the hustle and bustle of the City. A distinguished Cape Edwardian Mansion, the property features stunning outdoor and indoor dining, a beautiful swimming pool, and a quaint “help yourself” pantry full of snacks and beverages that certainly delights everyone! They also offer rather wonderful wine tasting in the bar, with local musicians providing entertainment.
Cape Grace is the crown jewel of the Mother City’s hotels. It is perfectly situated on a private quay between Cape Town’s V & A Waterfront and the yacht marina. Which means of course, that the best shops in the City are all right around the corner and fabulous restaurants can be found at perfectly spaced intervals, ensuring that you can indulge in the world class cuisine of the Cape whenever you need to rest. The hotel itself is beautifully appointed and modern with all the fine detail and features you would want from a five-star property.
The heritage and tales of the Cape’s colorful history has been cleverly woven into the design of the Cape Grace with the furniture, rare fabrics, intriguing artefacts, original antiques and local paintings and sculptures all adding to the atmosphere. Don’t leave without taking a peek at the impressive in-house wine cellar.
What to do
Experience the Cape Winelands in absolute style with a bespoke tour provider. We were picked up in a luxury Range Rover and swept away for sumptuous wining and dining. Our day began with a stop at the Franschhoek Motor Museum. We saw antique cars of all makes and models including the infamous Model T as well as Maserati, Bugatti, and many more. We concluded our tour with a ride in a vintage Rolls Royce. Imagine stunning views of the mountains in the background and a glass of wine from the on-property winery.
Our next stop was lunch at one of the Winelands best Farm-to-table eateries, Boschendal’s The Werf. We sipped wine as we looked out over the massive winery and farm. After indulging in a spectacular lunch inside the beautifully revamped original cellar of the Manor House, we walked through the gardens, talking and laughing, snapping photos and sipping wine along the way.
