Botswana’s Okavango delta is one of our favourite safari destinations. And now, we’re thrilled to be able to combine an aerial safari by private helicopter with a horse ride through the delta! Talk about a new adventure!

Begin with a helicopter journey at sunrise.

This unique sky-and-earth day-long expedition begins at dawn as the open-sided (doors come off for maximum game viewing opportunities) helicopter safari takes flight offering uninterrupted aerial views across the delta. Take in the spectacular aerial views of the game-rich landscape.

Fly over a private concession, bordering on the Moremi Game Reserve, viewing elephants, buffalo, giraffe and zebra as the sun rises and the wildlife begins a new day in the oasis of the Okavango Delta.

Meet your guide and horses.

Following the helicopter flight, the safari continues on horseback accompanied by an expert equestrian guide. All horses full- or part- thoroughbred, pure Arab, Anglo Arab, Friesian Cross and Botswana Warm Bloods. These horses are well-schooled, responsive and simply a pleasure to ride.

Together with your guide, traverse palm-lined islands, grassy flood plains, mopane forests and clear streams of the Okavango Delta.

See more than you can from a vehicle.

The intimate half-day or a full-day experience gives even returning safari lovers something new to discover. Being able to move silently on the horses, it is also possible to pass unnoticed whilst watching the animals go about their day-to-day business totally unaffected by your presence.

Another advantage of being on horseback is that one can move with the animals and follow them on their journeys, unhindered by river crossings and difficult terrain that would rule out a game drive vehicle.

Previous clients have galloped with wild dogs on the hunt, travelled with elephants as they meandered through the river systems, investigated vultures circling in the distance, and followed massive herds of buffalo.

To book the safari experience, guests must have a mastery of the basic horse-riding skills, as well as an ability to trot for stretches of ten minutes at a time, to be comfortable at all paces and to be able to gallop. The minimum age requirement for the safari is 12 years old and persons under 18 years old must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.

The helicopter and horseback Botswana safari experience can be pre‐booked at time of your reservation. Contact one of our safari specialists today to start planning your Botswana adventure!
