Taking the Family on Safari? Zambia for the win!February 21, 2017 | Sarah Fazendin
At Rothschild Safaris, family and multi-generational adventures in Africa are some of our specialties. We’ve traveled across Africa, from Kenya to South Africa, with our own children. We know the best family guides and the right places to stay if you are traveling with kids.
Which is why we are so excited about some new developments in Zambia (and Zimbabwe) that make family travel to these fabulous wildlife destinations even better!
Connoisseur Safari – Family Style
Zambia is widely considered one of the best safari destinations in Africa. Here, you are able to explore on foot – something simply not possible in other parts of Africa. Walking through the bush with an expert guide is thrilling, fun, and memorable.
We’ve also learned that children’s stamina is different from that of adults, and sometimes children want to stay behind to rest and relax. Our collection of family-friendly “Safari Houses” in Zambia include a fun staff who are more than happy to watch and care for children who may opt to stay back from an activity, and are kept busy with safari packs with fun quizzes and puzzles, trips to nearby villages to meet local children, helping out in camp or playing games around the property. All of our “safari houses” in Zambia also have pools!
The houses are an ideal place to stay as the privacy they afford means your family can be totally relaxed and feel at home.
Zambia is completely unspoiled by mass tourism and is rich in wildlife, thick forests and meandering rivers. Of course, it’s also where you can see the world’s biggest waterfall, Victoria Falls- one of the seven natural wonders of the world!
There are many other treasures in store in Zambia, as it boasts some of the best game parks in Africa, providing an unmatched safari experience. South Luangwa, Lower Zambezi, Liuwa Plain, and Kafue are just some of the National Parks one can visit in Zambia, along with more specialist areas like Kasanka and Bangweulu Swamps.
The people of Zambia are warm, friendly and proud of their heritage. With a variety of different tribes incorporating different languages, traditions, music and dance, your family is guaranteed a cultural experience second to none.
Zambia offers a wide range of activities, from adventurous walking safaris, to gentle morning canoe trips down the Zambezi River, enriching cultural interactions with the local communities; to adrenaline-pumping bungee jumping…there really is something for your family in Zambia!
New Family-friendly Safari Camp in Zimbabwe
We have a new semi-permanent camp available for families in Mana Pools – a charming 10-bed, semi-permanent tented camp that enjoys stunning views across a flood plain towards the Zambezi River and named after a renowned African safari guide, who literally pioneered mobile-tented walking safaris in the region. The concept is simple, but the experience is intimate, offering guests exceptional service, great game viewing, and top-notch guides.
Mana Pools, a UNESCO World Heritage site in Zimbabwe, is situated in the heart of 12,000 square kilometers of the Zambezi Valley. The park is one of the most outstanding walking locations in Zimbabwe and among the last remaining wild-walking parks in Africa.
