DAYS 4 & 5 SERENGETI NATIONAL PARK

Leaving the charming Lake Manyara behind you will drive to the Serengeti, Tanzania’s oldest and most popular national park, also a world heritage site and recently proclaimed as being home to one of the 7 natural wonders of the modern world; the great wildebeest migration. After taking lunch at scenic picnic spot on route you will proceed to Serena Mbuzi Mawe, your accommodation for the next two nights.

About Serena Mbuzi Mawe: Guarded by three million year-old granite towers, this luxury tented-camp is unique. Cleverly located on one of the main annual migration corridors for over one million wildebeest, half a million zebras and gazelles, and their accompanying cast of predators it is also located at the very epicenter of one of the world’s most famous national parks. Enjoy the central fire-pit for evening sundowners.

DAY 2 SELINDA RESERVE

Today your Botswana safari adventure begins! After breakfast, you will transfer with your guide to the starting point of the actual canoe trail. Once the guide has briefed you, the trail starts with a short late afternoon canoe experience before arriving at the evening’s first camp.

As there is a minimal distance to be covered on the first day of your Botswana safari, you will paddle until ready to stop, just before sunset, at a suitable site on the banks of the Spillway.

The dome-tented camp is erected and we enjoy a well-deserved sundowner around the campfire before dinner, followed by a good night’s sleep.

DAY 3 SELINDA RESERVE

After an early wake-up call, tea or coffee and light breakfast while the camp is being dismantled, you will head out on the canoes for a full day of paddling, with lunch en-route and the possibility of stretching your legs if you come across something worth investigating on foot. Tonight you will enjoy camp in another suitable location, gradually making your way down the Spillway.

DAY 4 SELINDA RESERVE

Guest Accommodations: Ten green roomy and stylish canvas tents with en-suite bathrooms, including indoor. Outdoor showers, for those who want to feel the Kalahari breeze on their skin, have been fashioned in classical style and are set into a palm grove creating an oasis of civilization in what can be the harshest of stark environments. Persian rugs underfoot and cool cotton sheets form a striking contrast with the rugged wilderness viewed from the comfort of one’s own verandah.
Activities: Morning and afternoon game drives in traditional safari vehicles, nature walks, mokoro excursions & quad biking.
Wildlife: During the wet season the landscape transforms. Clouds of flamingo and other migratory birds descend from the heavens to decorate the watery grasslands. Herds of Zebra and wildebeest materialize, drawn by the lush grass and for several months, the desert is teeming with game and predators.

A safari to Jack’s Camp is also a complete desert experience focusing on species unique to the area such as aardvark, gemsbok and springbuck. It is the only place where guests are virtually guaranteed to see the rare and elusive brown hyena and be able to walk through the Kalahari with a gang of habituated but, wild meerkats!

About Makgadikgadi Pans
Makgadikgadi & Nxai Pans form an enormous flat landscape of salt pans and grasslands which forms part of the Kalahari Desert. May to November the area is dry and largely devoid of game but December to April the desert springs to life as rain showers bring fresh grass and huge herds of grazers and the predators that hunt them.

Wildlife: The Okavango Delta is home to a large number of species, including semi-aquatic species, such as the elegant red lechwe and shy sitatunga. Families of hippo hide in the deeper channels and lagoons, while the unique Delta environment supports many minute but beautiful species, including multicolored frogs and incandescent dragonflies. The area is much less about intense game-viewing, but more about a gentler Okavango experience.

This Adventure Camping Kenya Safari includes road transfers from Nairobi and a one way flight from Nairobi Wilson to the Masai Mara.  All game drives are in 4×4 vehicle from the camp. Spend 3 nights in the Selenkay Conservancy followed by 3 nights in the Ol Kinyei Conservancy.  Selenkay Conservancy is in the Amboseli eco-system and Ol Kinyei Conservancy is a very exclusive wildlife reserve in the Mara eco-system, teeming with animals including over 30 lions and 8 leopards.

This camping kenya safari has been designed to offer the same high quality wildlife safari experience provided by the top-end kenya safari camps, with 4×4 game viewing escorted by top class guides and in exclusive wildlife conservancies away from the tourist minibuses, but at a hugely reduced price by staying in small basic adventure camps, “real camping” instead of the luxury accommodation of the expensive up-market tented lodges.

The adventure camp operates from January 01 to April 10 and July 1 to October 31, 2012 with daily departures from Nairobi, using a minibus shuttle between Nairobi and the Selenkay camp, flying to Mara and back from Mara by road in minibus shuttle.

- Accommodation is in small 2-man dome tents. It is “real camping” and all guests need to bring their own sleeping bag as well as a towel.

- Each tent has its own flush toilet and safari shower located behind the tent.

- All meals are prepared by the camp cook. Mineral water is provided in camp and on game drives but guests need to buy their own drinks at a supermarket en route to each camp.

- The big attraction is being in small campsites in exclusive wildlife conservancies with activity-packed itineraries and excellent guides and with game drives in open-sided 4×4 safari vehicles, not minivans.

- These Adventure Camps are sited in private conservancies with a wealth of wildlife and where you can go on walks with Maasai guides and take night drives but they are also conveniently located for easy access to Amboseli National Park and the Maasai Mara Reserve.

Welcome to Africa! Your Botswana safari continues as you are met at the Maun International Airport off your flight from Johannesburg. You will take a flight to Nxabega Airstrip where a safari vehicle will be waiting to take you to the campsite. Explore the crystal-clear channels, islands and waterways by mekoro (dug-out canoe), and enjoy game viewing walks on the islands. Spend two nights at a private campsite in a private concession area, bordering the Moremi Wildlife Reserve, with a complement of camp staff to cater for your needs.

The highlight of any Botswana safari is the magnificent Okavango Delta, a maze of lagoons, lakes and hidden channels covering an area of over 16,000 square km in flood and shrinking to less than 9,000 square km in the dry season. Trapped in the parched Kalahari sands, this fresh water oasis attracts wildlife that depends on the permanent waters. Sable, giraffe, zebra, buffalo, lion, and elephant, drift through the Kalahari woodlands. This Delta is one of the planet’s most extraordinary wild places and Botswana’s most valuable natural resource.

 DAYS 4 & 5 MOREMI GAME RESERVE

Today your Botswana safari takes you on a short flight in a light aircraft will take you to khwai in the north gate region of Moremi Wildlife Reserve. The first protected area in Africa to be established by local people, the Reserve is rated as Africa’s most beautiful wildlife sanctuary. Spend two nights camping in the reserve, with extensive and interpretive game-drives taking up your days.

 DAYS 6 & 7 CHOBE NATIONAL PARK – SAVUTE

Enjoy a long game drive (5 – 6 hours overland) as you transfer to Savute, renowned for lion and other predator viewing, where you will spend two nights camping next to the Savute Channel. Huge animal concentrations are attracted to this area and its artificial watering holes in the dry season.

Chobe National Park, another highlight of this Botswana safari, encompasses 11,700 km2 of wilderness, bordered in the north by the beautiful Chobe River, and buffered on all sides by wildlife management areas and forest reserves, allowing for the free movement of game. A wildlife enthusiast’s dream, Chobe National Park is one of the top wilderness reserves in the world and is home to the largest single concentration of elephant. Two species of region-specific antelope occur here, the puku and the Chobe bushbuck, which cannot be seen in other parts of Botswana except on the Chobe riverfront.

 DAYS 8 & 9 CHOBE NATIONAL PARK – SERONDELA

From Savute, move up to northern Chobe (4 – 5 hours overland game drive) where you will camp for two nights in the Serondela area of the National Park. This is the heart of elephant country and you may spend many hours watching the huge herds in and around the waters of the Chobe River on game drives or private boat cruise. Northern Chobe is renowned for its large variety of bird and animal life, beautiful scenery and magnificent sunsets.

 DAY 10 VICTORIA FALLS

Take a short drive from Chobe National Park to Victoria Falls in Zimbabwe for your one night stay at The Elephant Camp, after a tour of the Falls (entrance fee to the Falls is included in the safari fare). Enjoy a sunset cruise along the banks of the Zambezi River and view the spectacular scenery that is nature’s own sanctuary and home to the ‘laughing hippos’, ‘singing birds’ and the ‘snapping crocodiles’. This tranquil cruise offers exceptional photographic opportunities and delightful canapés and sundowners to toast the glorious African sunset. The Elephant Camp also offers close interaction with wildlife – in particular elephant at the Wild Horizons Sanctuary.
