Last month, Giraffe Manor welcomed the arrival of two warthogs, Leopard and Bait. A local private guide found the two on the road, abandoned by their mother. They were reared at his home for a year until they got too large and troublesome for his house so they were adopted by the Manor to join the other warthogs and resident Rothschild Giraffe.

To say that I woke this morning to the sound of hippos wallowing in the nile would be an understatement. They sang! They sang so loudly it was like nothing I have ever experienced!

This morning I was met by my guide and transferred to the airport for my flight to Axum, departing at 7:00am. Known for its obelisks, temples and churches, what Axum is most famous for is the St. Mary Church of Zion. It is believe this church houses the Biblical Ark of the Covenant containing the original inscribed Ten Commandments.

On Friday morning, 20 January, now wild orphan Yatta came to the Ithumba Stockades, a tiny newborn baby sticking close to mum’s side! That’s right, Yatta has had her first baby, born into the wild.

This morning I was met at 8:30am by my driver and was transferred by road to Gondar. Gondar is known as “The Yellow City” because as the Italians first arrived, in the pilaso (town center) they painted all of the buildings yellow…. hence the yellow city.
