This is a 9 day Kilimanjaro climb starting at Machame gate and ascending via Stella Point. There is a night time ascent to the summit. The trip is fully supported with spacious guest tents, mattress and pillow as well as a mess tent with lightweight tables and chairs and all dining utensils and separate bathroom tent. And most importantly, it is led and supported by knowledgeable, highly professional guides and mountain crew monitored start to finish by our expert logistics team at base.

DAY 1 ARUSHA
Welcome to Africa! When you arrival to Kilimanjaro, Tanzania you will be met by our representative and transferred to the Rivertree’s Country Inn in Arusha. This evening you will be given a full climbing briefing and equiptment check.

DAY 2 FOREST
After breakfast you are driven to the trail head where you meet your mountain crew, finalize packing and start your ascent. Today’s hike is through verdant Afromontane Forest to Machame Camp and on route you have a picnic lunch. Look out for pretty endemic flora and a gradation of forest zones!

DAY 3 SHIRA
From Machame Camp you hike to Shira Camp. The first section is relatively steep and altitude is gained rapidly. A picnic lunch is taken on the trail. The zone you pass through today is known as the Heathland Zone where attractive Helichrysum and lobelia plants become apparent. Various geologic features can be seen today from lava tubes to glacial valleys.

DAY 4 BARRANCO
Today is a climb high, sleep low day. You ascend into alpine desert and, if you are feeling strong, climb Lava Tower before descending to Barranco camp. Lunch is a picnic on route. This is a long day but note that the next time you reach this altitude is in another two days – great acclimatization day!

DAY 5 KARANGA
After conquering the Barranco Wall, a well supervised rock scramble, it is a relatively short hike to Karanga Camp, arriving in the late afternoon. Sunsets here are spectacular with views of the southern glacial valleys and ice fields towering 3,300 feet above.

DAY 6 BARAFU
Today is a half day ascent to Barafu Camp. Lunch is at camp allowing plenty of time to relax before tomorrow’s summit bid. Desolate alpine desert, and at times, strong winds whip through camp but evenings often bring splendid views of Mawenzi Peak.

DAY 7 SUMMIT – MWEKA
You will depart just before midnight for your summit bid. Patience and persistence is the name of game to reach the summit, and by dawn as the first rays of light start to appear, you will arrive near the rim for the relatively short summit push via Stella Point to Uhuru Peak and the “Roof of Africa”! What goes up must come down, your goal today is to descent to Mweka Camp by dusk.

DAY 8 ARUSHA
After breakfast continue descending through lush forest and around midday say farewell to your crew before being transferred back to the Rivertrees Country Inn for a well deserved shower and celebratory dinner!

DAY 9 YOUR JOURNEY ENDS
Relax at the Rivertree Country Inn (including breakfast & lunch) until it is time for your transfer to the airport for your departing flight back to the USA.
