DAY 1 TRAVEL DAY – TO AFRICA

Your Botswana safari begins today as you board your international flight to Africa!

    DAY 2 VICTORIA FALLS

Welcome to Africa! Your Botswana safari continues as  you arrive in Livingstone, Zambia, you will be met and transferred directly for a guided tour of the Victoria Falls, one of the Seven Natural Wonders of the World. At 5604 feet wide, it is the largest curtain of water in the world and drops 338 feet into the basalt depths of the sheer Zambezi Gorge.

You will then be transferred to your accommodations for the night.

Overnight: Toka Leya OR River Club (B, L, D & all beverages)

    DAYS 3, 4, 5 LINYANTI REGION

After a full breakfast, you will leave Zambia and enter Chobe National Park in Botswana by way of the Kazungula border, a point where the four countries of Botswana, Zambia, Namibia and Zimbabwe meet. After a lunch cruise on the catamaran-style shaded boat, you will depart by road for the Linyanti Region and the Linyanti Adventurer Camp for your three-night stay.

The Linyanti Adventurer Camp is set up under massive African ebony and knobthorn acacia trees overlooking the waterways of the Linyanti Swamps. Your pre-erected campsite will be waiting for you with 3m x 3m dome tents with shaded verandas that provide spacious comfort. Pure cotton linen bedrolls (with feather duvets) on GI stretchers, a teak bedside table with silver lantern and mini-luggage benches complement the atmosphere in pristine, wild camping areas. Separate flushing toilet and shower “bathrooms” with old-style tin bucket showers, hand basins, and all amenities create simple serviced comfort.

On this Botswana safari, Chobe National Park encompasses 11,700 km2 of wilderness, bordered in the north by the beautiful Chobe River, and buffered on all sides by wildlife management areas and forest reserves, allowing for the free movement of game. A wildlife enthusiast’s dream, the park is one of the top wilderness reserves in the world and is home to the largest single concentration of elephant. The Linyanti Game Reserve sits on the western border of Chobe National Park and is famed for its myriad of changing landscapes with sweeping views, from riverine to savannah and from forest to plains. The Linyanti region’s life-giving perennial waters attract herds of wildlife that walk well-worn game paths to slake their thirst in the dry season. Predators follow in their footsteps and, coupled with the area’s diversity of habitat, make for exciting game viewing.

Activities: Twice-daily game drives, bush walks, birding

Overnight: Linyanti Adventurer Camp (B, L, D & all beverages)

    DAYS 6, 7, 8 KHWAI CONCESSION

After breakfast, your Botswana safar will take you to the airstrip where you will connect with your light aircraft flight to the Khwai Concession and Khwai Adventurer Camp for three nights.

Khwai Adventurer Camp is located in a private concession just north of the Khwai River above the Moremi Game Reserve. The Khwai Concession is one of the most diverse areas in northern Botswana which seldom disappoints when it comes to producing extraordinary wildlife experiences. The life source for this area is the Khwai River – the northernmost “finger” of the Okavango Delta alluvial fan, which provides vital sustenance to numerous animals.

Over time, the Khwai area has metamorphosed into a wide range of exciting wildlife habitats – some of the most varied to be found in the entire Okavango Delta: a blend of forests, floodplain, wetland and grasslands. The narrow Khwai Channel is home to large mammals such as hippo and crocodile with buffalo and red lechwe often seen grazing along the fringe. The beautiful gallery riverine woodland found along the river provides further sanctuary to birds, primates and leopard. Elusive roan antelope often come to the river to drink. Activities focus around day and night game drives, nature walks and seasonal mokoro excursions.

Away from the river there is a wonderful mix of acacia and leadwood trees of varying sizes that abuts into mopane woodland. The latter, together with the permanent presence of water, attracts large numbers of elephant to the area. Larger predators include lion, wild dog and spotted hyaena, while birdlife found here is just as varied thanks to the colourful palette of habitats.

Activities: Activities on this Botswana safari include twice daily game drives, guided bush walks through the Delta, and boating through the waterways via mokoro

Overnight: Khwai Adventurer Camp (B, L, D & all beverages)

    DAYS 9 & 10 MOREMI GAME RESERVE

Today, you will take a flight to the Moremi Game Reserve, which covers almost one-third of the Okavango Delta, where you will be transferred to the Xigera Mokoro Trails Camp for your two-night stay.

Xigera Mokoro Trails Camp offers lighter guest tents than the rest of the safari with comfortable mattresses at ground level. The Botswana safari tents are made with a gauze main frame, thus enhancing the amazing views of the surrounding waterworld.

The water-filled paradise of the private Xigera area is the ultimate Delta experience on this Botswana safari, with serene waters flowing through innumerable channels around remote islands and a profusion of plant and animal life. Experience the Moremi Game Reserve by mokoro, walking and camping out on a vegetated island, enabling up-close encounters with an excellent diversity of birdlife (including Pel’s Fishing Owl), frogs, and a myriad of game species, some specially adapted to water, such as the red lechwe and rare sitatunga.

Activities: Activities on this Botswana safari include mokoro excursions around remote islands; walking safaris available depending on season

Overnight: Xigera Mokoro Trails Camp (B, L, D & all beverages)

    DAY 11 YOUR JOURNEY ENDS

Your Botswana safari comes to an end as you are transferred to the airstrip for your short flight to Maun to connect to your flight to Johannesburg and onto the United States.
